THE PHILOSOPHICAL BREAKDOWN || SENECA

''We suffer more often in imagination than in reality''

~ SENECA

We appear for our exams but after the exams, a general fear of result keep on frightening us till the time results come. Well, that’s something clearly highlighting our ability to overthink and the psychological fear, embedded in our general programming. We all know the results are nothing but the evaluation of everything we did, still, we get anxious, unable to comprehend the reality, and hence keep on worrying about it. It only brings us sufferings with respect to something that is perhaps or perhaps not gonna happen. Sometimes we even torture ourselves to the extremes for the sake of our futuristic imaginations. The same is beautifully mentioned in the statement by Seneca, " We suffer more often in imagination than in real life". Let's try to understand what Seneca actually wanted to express and what he wanted us to realize.

According to Seneca, we often live in the realm of something yet to come and don't try to accept that the future doesn't exist yet. So, what's the point of thinking and worrying about something that is practically not existing yet.

We keep on fantasizing about the illusions of the future and hence our inquisition to predict the future increases multiple folds, which ultimately increases our worries and hence our sufferings.

Oftentimes, we imagine the situation as a catastrophe but in reality, it turns out to be salvatory and pleasurable.

The future isn't something that can be controlled. But in order to fulfill our fantasies of glory and pleasure, we use to try to speculate the future and this speculation in a real sense gives rise to our sufferings. It is our anticipations and fear of failure that is bringing this sense of dejection and that too hypothetically. In a true sense, this simply denotes our inability to accept the truth and facing the reality. We act by avoiding the truth and by ignoring reality. We don't want to face the pain and hence instead of facing the situation, we exaggerate the situation. This exaggeration ultimately turns the pain more painful, which brings nothing but sufferings in the form of imagination, and hence we suffer more in our imagination than in reality.

Encountering my nights! ✨ || Things that keep me up at night || Kashish Gupta

Things that keep me up at night;

 In the middle of every night, a wave of reminisce, those past events flandering and saddening me at the same time. All mistakes committed in the past blessing me with insomnia and resulting in devastating thoughts. Though just a rotation of the earth, it symbolises darkness and scars. That arousal of emotions synergises the stuff and hence the night antagonises the sleep.

A different relationship with night, its silence and desperation adding together to show their effect. That apprehensive thought causing the super additive effect and bringing desolation. The mind becomes hyperactive resisting the sleep. That's the way night keep me awake.

My insecurities and Incapabilities are more than enough to justify my insomnia. I often encounter the same. Perspiration over the head and nostalgia inside the brain, senses in the favour of that non-sleepy night. Holding tight my pillow to end up the fight. This fight with sleep is in fact a fight with my insecurities. How capable I am, gonna decide my priorities. Here the priority is sleep but the factors are impeding the results. I'm unable to sleep and this is annoying me up.

Well, my poetic nature is also one of the reasons, I am attracted to night. That Moon in the sky and the twinkling stars, inspiring me to shine, influencing me to write. Thousands of stars with a moon, that gazing bringing me to rejoice and time passes keeping me up at night.

I'm also worried about the future and my anxiety rises to its peak. That's the most frequent reason my sleepless nights attain a streak. That worry about the future and the stuff to be done in the upcoming days also adds a cherry on the cake and resist my sleep.

It's fun waking up at night but it's also a threat to a healthy life. This life costs more than sleepless nights. It's better to take proper sleep and win this fight. Taste the victory of full sleep and you'll realise what winning is like. Deal with your insomnia and end this shitty fight.

A serious message;

Well, I am quite aware of the consequences this insomnia cause. From dark circles to mental health hazards to anxiety, stress, etc and I want others to know the same as well. Insomnia is not something one should be proud of. Our body needs proper sleep to recover, refreshen you up and recharges you for next day activities. And with night sleep there is an association with our circadian rhythm i.e sleep-wake cycle. Hence it's important to take a proper sleep and don't let this insomnia hit you. If the same happens, consult your doctor.
